Lotería Rules — Complete Guide

Lotería is Mexico's traditional board game, similar to bingo but played with pictures instead of numbers. Each player receives a 4×4 tabla with 16 pictures from the 54-card deck. The caller reveals cards one by one; players mark matches with beans. Each round draws a winning pattern (a line, a diagonal, four corners or a full card) and the first player to complete it and shout «¡Lotería!» — with a valid board — wins. This version is free entertainment with virtual chips only.

The deck, the tablas and the players

The traditional deck has 54 pictures (El Gallo, El Diablito, La Dama, La Sirena, La Luna, El Sol…). Each tabla is a 4×4 grid holding 16 of those pictures; different players' tablas may share pictures, just like printed tablas.

Tables seat 2 to 5 players; AI players fill empty seats when fewer are present. All artwork in this version is original, simple geometric illustration: we use the traditional public-domain names, not any commercial deck's art.

Calling the cards

The caller (the server) shuffles the 54 cards and reveals them one by one, about 3 seconds apart. Every called card stays visible to the table.

When a called picture is on your tabla, tap that square to place a bean. Placing or removing beans is free: marking a wrong square carries no penalty — only squares whose picture has already been called ever count.

The winning pattern and the ¡Lotería! shout

At the start of each round one of 12 winning patterns is drawn. Only beans on already-called squares count: when your pattern is complete, press the «¡LOTERÍA!» button. If the server verifies it, you win the round; a false call freezes your button for 5 seconds.

StepWhat happens
PatternEach round draws 1 of 12 patterns: 4 horizontal lines, 4 vertical lines, 2 diagonals, four corners, full card

BeansTap called squares on your tabla to place/remove beans — wrong marks are free
¡Lotería!Complete pattern + button press = round won; false shout = 5 s frozen
MatchFirst to win 2 rounds wins the match (max 6 rounds per match)

How the pot is split (no house edge)

In this version players play against each other — there is no bank and no rake. Every player posts an entry fee at the start of the match and the pot is split by final placement: with 2 players the champion takes it all; with 3 or more, 1st takes 70% and 2nd takes 30%. Chips are always conserved.

The free table is for practice: no chips move. The 100, 1,000 and 10,000 tables set the per-match entry fee.

Quick tips for beginners

Start at the free table until you recognise all 54 pictures at a glance.

Don't shout ¡Lotería! carelessly: a false call freezes you for 5 seconds and can cost you the round.

Check the pattern at the start of each round: it isn't always a full card — sometimes a single line or the corners is enough.

Rounds last 1–3 minutes and the deck runs out at 54 cards: if nobody completes the pattern, the round ends with no winner and the next one begins.

Frequently asked questions

How many cards are in Lotería?

The traditional deck has 54 pictures. In this version all 54 are shuffled and called one by one each round.

How many players can play?

Two to five per table; when fewer than three humans are present, AI players fill the empty seats.

What winning patterns are there?

Twelve: 4 horizontal lines, 4 vertical lines, 2 diagonals, four corners, and the full card (all 16 squares). Each round draws one at random. The 2×2 «pozo» is a traditional variant this version does not include yet.

What if I shout ¡Lotería! falsely?

The server verifies your beans: if your pattern is not complete with already-called squares, your button freezes for 5 seconds.

Can I mark squares that haven't been called?

No. Beans can only be placed on squares whose picture has already been called, and only those marks count. Wrong marks carry no penalty — they simply don't count.

How do you win the match?

The first player to win 2 rounds wins the match. There is a safety cap of 6 rounds: if nobody reaches 2, players are ranked by rounds won and valid beans.

How is the pot split?

By placement: with 2 players the champion takes the whole pot; with 3 or more, 70% to 1st and 30% to 2nd. There is no rake — table chips are always conserved.

Is this a real-money game?

No — it is free entertainment. All chips are virtual and can never be exchanged for real money. The store sells only chip packs and cosmetic items.

Can I really play Lotería online free?

Yes — at loteria.yeeqia.com you play free in the browser, no download or sign-up needed, with virtual chips only.
